THE IAN FAYS are a Northern Californian indie pop-rock group comprised of identical twin sisters, Lizzie and Sara. The Fays released their first album, The Damon Lessons, via Homesleep in late October of 2003. In the years to follow, the twins toured the US and Europe multiple times after their subsequent releases, Dylan’s Lost Days (2008) and Jensen’s Camera (WWNBB 2011). On Halloween 2013, in celebration of their 10 year anniversary as a band, The Ian Fays released The Most Spectacular Party, and again toured extensively before taking a hiatus to foster a new generation of little Fays. On October 31st, 2023, in celebration of their 20 year anniversary as a band, The Fays released the title-track single from their upcoming album, Viola, followed by two more tracks, Olive Says and New Year’s Eve. The new album Viola, 5th LP release from the twins, was published on February 16th, 2024 via WWNBB Collective. On March 13th, the band attended one of the most important showcase festivals in the world, SXSW in Austin, Texas.
What They Say: “Lizzie wrote this song in the shower, after an 8 hour drive filled with smoke, blood moons, and an overwhelming sense of inevitability. It’s about picking up and packing up to show love, seeing the world with purple eyes, and celebrating people through their sacred, favorite things.“
“Olive Says is a waltzy tune with a dramatic flare – strung together with a bouncy music box piano and a warm cello. It’s about feeling stuck in my little San Franciscian rental, falling into old patterns, and longing to outsmart the ghosts that somehow keep finding you – back to an easier time when the only thing haunting you were the red and pink spirits of Valentine’s Day.“
Their New Album: “Our new album Viola is our sparkly purple-soaked baby. The record offers a deep dive into our lives, loves, and losses–and highlights our passion towards approaching the twists and turns of life with a glass-half-full/glass-fully-fun attitude – always with a karaoke tune in mind and a purple cocktail in hand.“

Their Mixtape:
Guided by Voices – Game of Pricks
From the first note of this song, your body can’t help but say, “Let’s go!” Pure, perfect rock and roll.
Jenny Lewis – Heads Gonna Roll
This song is a masterpiece. Jenny Lewis’s voice and lyrics always leave us saying: “It’s too good!”
David Bowie – Life on Mars
David Bowie is our all-time inspiration. We have twin Bowie tattoos to prove it.
The Magnetic Fields – All The Umbrellas in London
We’ve been really attached to this song since college. From the first listen it was our instant soulmate song. We covered it once at a concert we played in Arcata, CA – dream come true!
Bob Dylan – I Want You
Bob Dylan was the first concert of our life. His lyrics are our everything.
Bright Eyes – Falling Out of Love at This Volume
This song brings us back to being 17 and obsessed with 4-tracks.
Orville Peck – Let Me Drown
Listening to Orville Peck’s voice is an all-time, jaw dropping experience. Everytime! This song creates the perfect recipe for twin chills. If we could reincarnate and choose someone’s voice to come back with- it would be Orville’s.
