simmcat is the project of Italian, but Copenhagen based, visual artist and songwriter Simona Catalani. Her world is a homage to the natural melancholy forged by memories, creating an ethereal imagery between sound and visual boundaries. After the release of the EP Soy Milk in 2020, characterized by and intimate bedroom pop and more slacker sounds akin of Frankie Cosmos, or the lo-fi vibes of Karen O.’s solo’s debut, simmcat came out in 2023 with the debut full length I Thought I Was Dreaming, via We Were Never Being Boring Collective, expanding her inspiration to a suspended visionary state, typical of a dream-pop reminiscent of Mazzy Star. simmcat sophomore album, I heard she lost you, recorded in California during spring 2024, will be released tomorrow, March 7th, 2025, again via WWNBB.

What She Says: I never thought I would be able to write another album, but then, like the first one, it’s something that happens, I find myself writing songs. It’s like something I don’t control, it just happens. This song started it all, there was a moment when I was trying to get over a loss, it was early spring and after a few months in which I still felt very distant from my life, I started wondering ‘How do we get out of this season?’. After writing this song the others came effortlessly. From there everything that was happening inside me came out.“

This is my favorite love song. Her voice touches something inside me that I can’t describe. It’s probably the only song I’ll never get tired of listening to.

Johnny Flynn and Laura Marling – The Water

I discovered this song and this video when I was 14, I remember being enchanted by their voices, I couldn’t stop singing it. Somehow it taught me this straight feeling that I always look for in what I do. Laura Marling remains one of my favorite artists, I find her work incredible, it’s like she belongs to another universe.

Warpaint – Undertow

This song gives me incredible energy. They are my favorite band ever! I am a huge fan, I was lucky enough to see them live twice and every time I thought: I want to be like them.
For me they are the coolest girls in the world. I also really appreciate Jennylee’s solo work, she is pure magic.

Soko – Treat Your Woman Right

I love Soko, I think she is a real artist, this song is like a poem. She always inspires me, when I listen to her music I remember that the most important thing is to be yourself and make music sincerely.

Christopher Owens – So

This is one of Christopher Owens new songs, and honestly I couldn’t wait because I love
everything he does. He was and still is a very important figure to me.

Camera Obscura – Tears For Affairs

This song is like a part of me. I can create a visual imagery inside my head.

Kimya Dawson – Tire Swing

I discovered Kimya Dawson and this song the first time I saw the movie Juno. My life completely changed after that movie. I was younger and I remember thinking: this is what I want to do, I want to write songs like this. In fact, on my first album there is a cover of this song.

Jim Croce – Operator

This is definitely the song I would choose as the soundtrack for my life. His voice is so
melancholic, it always moves me, there is something truly unique and pure in it.
