The Lovely Sparrow – Multiple Lives (video premiere)

The Lovely Sparrows – Multiple Lives (video still)

The Lovely Sparrows are an American indie rock band formed in Austin, Texas in 2005 by singer-songwriter Shawn Jones. Initially releasing a self-issued 7″ single Take Your Hats Off You Godless Bastards, they quickly established themselves on the local scene with a rotating lineup of collaborators. In 2006, the band issued their debut EP, Pulling Up Floors, Pouring on (New) Paint, via Abandoned Love Records, and, their first full-length album, Bury the Cynics, arrived in 2008. In 2011, they issued a new EP, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and in 2016 revisited material on Hermetic Recordings: Songs 2004-2016. After a long hiatus, the band released the album Shake the Shadow in 2018, reflecting new creative directions after Jones’ personal and geographic changes. I still picture you runningtheir third album, will be out on limited vinyl from Abandoned Love Records, on January 16th, 2026 and today we have the honor of letting you listen to the preview of the new single from the album, Multiple Lives.

What Shawn says: “Multiple Lives is the 2nd single off of the new album to be released. The video offers a sillier commentary on the song, with different versions of old tv detectives (Mulder, Columbo, Magnum PI, Cooper) slipping through time and searching for the Silver Thread that connects everything. It also serves more personally as a tribute to my late, great dog Mashti, whose memory inspired much of the album.

The Lovely Sparrows

There has always been something eerily precise yet oddly unbound in the music of The Lovely Sparrows. The Austin band’s newest release, I Still Picture You Running, is laced with nostalgia but propelled by motion and forward momentum. Once grounded in an avant-folk sound, the band now layers ambient loops and ’60s minimalist touches, giving these longtime friends room to stretch and explore. Cerebral yet instinctive, this is music as mulch, migration, and memory. Jones’s lyrics vividly animate spectral rodeo clowns, accidental tourists, and the vanished frontier. Their third LP moves through liminal spaces and objects out of time, building songs from secret codes and inside jokes. Richly orchestrated sound collages drift into ’70s prog odysseys, creating a loose album that breathes between movements. In the quiet after it ends, I Still Picture You Running seems to keep moving—music chasing its own echo across the wide field of memory, haunted and humane.

I still picture you running will be out via Abandoned Love Records on January 16th. Look HERE for more information on The Lovely Sparrows.
