When we managed to involve Cristiano Pizzuti, singer and songwriter with Black Tail, in our TRISTE© Mixtape series, we were very proud: not only his music is fantastic and his songs are always amazing, but he and his band come from Latina, Italy, a provincial town close to Rome (with a small town mentality), whose underground scene is somehow and unexpectedly alive and kicking (and to which we are very attached for personal reasons).
Now that we can share with you all, exclusively here and few days ahead of its release, Wide Awake on Beds of Golden Dreams, Black Tail’s fourth album, we are over the moon.
Agro Pontino is the new Midwest!

Wide Awake on Beds of Golden Dreams, out February 23rd (MiaCameretta Records), is Black Tail’s fourth full length. A descent through the complexity and uncertainty of our days. How do you write an indie-rock record, while you’re surrounded by the clash of worlds that fade? How can you talk about your feelings? And what about your bond with music while everything seems messed up? The record unfolds through different densities, from the jangly coming-of-age feelings (Josephine, A Landslide) to the deserted and rarefied atmospheres (Haze); from the kicking dreamlike attitude (Silver Feathers) to the crepuscular tones (Candle); from the indie rock evolutions (Blissful Summer/Neon Heartbreak, Wide Awake on Beds of Golden Dreams) to the introspective micro-landscapes (To Be Allowed to Be). The album tries to gain distance from the previous through the use of more unorthodox sonic exploits, outros and slanted guitars. Small quiet places and cinematic changes, mixing up hope and bitterness. A record that’s not here to cuddle you, and that makes it clear, starting from the cover image.
