LOWMOON is the lofi indie bedroom pop project of Yorkshire based musician/producer Mikey Wilson. Channeling post-punk, dreampop, new wave and shoegaze references LOWMOON exists within its own unique sound. Blending jangly guitars and synths with vintage drum machines and reverb drenched vocals. Embracing a DIY approach Mikey writes, records and mixes the music. His first full lenght album, Monochrome, was out in May this year via Safe Suburban Home, and reminds the dark sound of the 80s, magnificently blended with jangly and bright guitars: eight songs with original and great melodies, drum machine and hazy vocals. LOWMOON’s videos are aptly set to footage from 80s blockbuster movies (The Breakfast Club, Bright Lights, Big City). Cathedrals is the new single to be released tomorrow, November 22nd, through Safe Suburban Home and you can listen to it and watch its video on premiere here!.
What Mikey says :“I wrote it after a night out last Christmas, as an almost dream-like flash back. I wanted the main guitar hook to drone through the entire song and create a dreamy ethereal feel. The drums were programmed on a Roland 505, and the layered synth parts were a cheap toy Casio keyboard which I re-amped through an amp and pedals. It is the first single from my new album, which will be out in Spring 2025. It was actually the first track I started writing for the album and the last one I finished. The main guitar riff was originally played on a Juno synth and had more of a synthwave vibe, but it never quite felt right to me and I kept coming back to it while working on the rest of the album. Eventually I re-recorded the part on guitar through a Jazz Chorus amp and Boss DD-3 delay, and the rest of the production came together really quickly after that.
A big part of my process is experimenting with guitar pedals and cheap keyboards and outboard equipment from the 80’s. I used an old Art reverb unit which has a cool grainy sound on a few of the tracks. I also doubled up the vocals using a telephone microphone to give them a lofi feel.
The music video features footage from the 1988 film ‘Bright Lights, Big City’. I love retro films from the 80’s and early 90’s and ‘Bright Lights, Big City’ aesthetically matched the feeling I had when writing the song.”

Cathedral is out tomorrow, November 22nd on Safe Suburban Home. A new album will follow in Spring 2025. Look Here for more information on LOWMOON
