Maud Anyways was formed by French musician Maud Platiau-Bourret as a solo project in march 2021. She started by making songs on her own which quickly had some recognition and was played on indie pop radio shows. With the help of Casper Blond, a very talented multi intrumenalist young man from Denmark who also did the drums, additional guitars and bass, backing vocals, mixed and mastered her debut album, she managed to achieve a 9 tracks LP with shoegaze indie pop sounds. “I started music on my own only 3 years ago” she reckons “Before that I was a bassist in a post-rock band for 2 and a half years. We stopped rehearsals because of COVID and I was so frustrated that I started composing my own songs playing almost every instruments. Then Shore Dive Records contacted me; I wasn’t even looking for a label as I didn’t even dare dreaming of releasing my own LP. Since I had a lot of songs I had first thought about an EP which is quite logical for beginners, but with the help of Casper, and with the value he brought to my songs, the idea of an album imposed itself. He also made some backing vocals on two tracks, and I have the privilege of having Thierry Haliniak from My Raining Stars doing some backing vocals on one of the tracks“. Impermanent Lane is out today, September 27th, on Brighton’s Shore Drive Records.
What She Says: “The melody is happy but the lyrics are quite sad. The song is about the interrogations we have when we are involved in a relationship about what may be going on in each other mind and the fear of abandon of one character”
“Shadows Above is more melancholic, it is about the fear of losing someone because we have demands inside that make the other going away and disappear. The themes I am dealing with in Impermanent Lane have all something to do with universal fear of abandon. I think most people might recognize themselves in them because it is a universal feeling. Life is a constant impermanent lane, in my opinion“
Her Mixtape:
David Bowie – Alladin Sane
I discovered it at 13 years old and it overwhelmed me. Nothing had been the same ever since. I began playing music and showed some interest in a lot of bands. Mike Garson’s piano gives me vertigo. And of course David Bowie’s extraordinary vocals.
Slowdive – Shanty
I really like the mystery which emerges from this incredible song and the two voices of Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell are fitting so well together. I love the way they put synths in front in this album instead of guitars like they usually do, they are able to compose powerful songs changing their habits and it is quite remarkable .
Adorable – Breathless
For me this is the most beautiful love declaration song ever, very intense and sincere. The permanent guitar’s riff and the bass are repetitive and delicate, really touching. They should have been a massive band in the 90s, unfortunately they were hidden by the oasis wave, which is also a great band, but really Adorable deserved it.
Low – Hey
Low made the most impressive gig I ever witnessed. From the very first guitar note I knew I would attend to an awesome show. The sound ’s quality were incredible. Again the two voices are going so well together and they also created a peculiar style. I have been very sad when Mimi passed away. The drums she was playing is hypnotic.
Lush – Sweetness & Light
These women created a very peculiar style too and were able to imposed their music in a very male world, which is evolving nowadays, but still very slowly. Strong identity. Their album Split is a reference for me.
Beach House – Levitation
This song always make me cry because it reminds me of people I knew the way it is described in this song. It is very melancholic and intense. We recognize their music from the very start of each of their songs.
Ethics – Kiss For Ever
The lead singer and guitarist of Ethics, Casper Iskov, helped me on my own LP. He is very talented. This song is very romantic. I really like the atmosphere in it: the guitars are sounding so shoegaze. He knows exactly the notes needed in his songs for he has an incredible emotional intelligence. He is not doing too much, the perfect add. If Casper had been born twenty five years sooner, he would have been a major artist.
