Norwegian indie pop veteran Dylan Mondegreen (the moniker of Børge Sildnes) returns with his sixth album, A Sound Rings True, set for release on vinyl and digital platforms on 5 September 2025 (LP-release will be 27 August in Japan). As a taste of what’s to come, he released a new song today, called Moleskine Notebook. The LP can also be pre-ordered from today. The album was crafted over a six-year period. During a time when Sildnes faced vocal issues that left him unable to sing for a couple of years, he utilized the opportunity to hone his skills on various instruments and delve deeper into studio production techniques. The result is an album produced, mixed, and predominantly performed by Sildnes in his own small studio. Notably, the album also features contributions from musicians who have collaborated with artists like Frank Ocean, Shura, and Edwyn Collins. If you’re already familiar with Dylan Mondegreen, you’ll likely find a lot that feels familiar on A Sound Rings True. While synthesizers play a more prominent role than in previous works, the music remains melodic and nostalgic—richly arranged, effortlessly delivered, and exuding elegance.
What He Says: “Moleskine Notebook, like most of the other songs on the upcoming album, is about communication. It’s about a person who is very reserved and cautious about letting others in, and about how those around them respond to that. The song structure is a bit different from much of what I’ve done before—at least to my ears. I think that’s because it was written and arranged on my Prophet 5 synthesizer, rather than on guitar. The recording was mainly done in my own little basement studio at home, but with contributions from talented people on drums, saxophone, and backing vocals. I think there’s a lot here that will sound familiar to those who’ve listened to Dylan Mondegreen before. It’s kind of a mix of what I love most: sophistipop/indie pop with a fairly warm and organic sound.“

The Album: A Sound Rings True
“This will be my sixth album under the name Dylan Mondegreen. I’ve done even more myself on this one than in the past. I produced and mixed it, and played a few more instruments—such as synthesizers and bass—in addition to guitar. Many have previously categorized my music as sophistipop, and I think that label fits these nine tracks even better. They were recorded over a period of five to six years. It took a while for several reasons. I struggled with my voice due to health issues and went through a long period where I couldn’t sing properly. In addition, I did a lot myself and wanted to take the opportunity to improve on other instruments and studio techniques. A third reason is that I was also writing and recording an album with my band, Nansy, which reunited after 25 years. Our first single was released on 13 June. Some of the songs have already been released digitally. The title track, for example, came out in 2022. But I still feel it’s a well-composed album, meant to be listened to as a whole. The album is being pressed on vinyl in Japan, and Fastcut Records is releasing the LP there. It will be a very limited edition—100 copies—available through my own label, Saiko (distributed internationally via tigernet.no). Fastcut will release the LP on 27 August, while the official release date in Europe and for streaming services is 5 September.“
