Mt. Doubt is the project of songwriter and singer, Leo Bargery. Based in Edinburgh since 2015, the band have recorded three full length studio albums and toured across the U.K. They’re sound draws for a wide array of influences and tends towards the introspective and downbeat. We talked about their stunning latest album, “Doubtless”, out in 2020 on Last Night From Glasgow here.
What Leo Says: The next single we have coming out is the last to be taken from our 2020 record, ‘Doubtlands’. “68th in Orbit” is actually the album opener and seems to be a song that people have really connected with and enjoyed!
We decided to have some of our friends (Redolent, Life Model & Deer Leader) create remixes and new interpretations of the song just as one last celebration of the album and this track in particular! “68th in Orbit E.P.” will be out on March 19th. Preorder here.
His Mixtape:
New Order – True Faith ‘94
A band that I came to be very fond of somewhere along the M60. They have an unholy knack of crafting pretty unrivalled melodies. This is a perfect pop song that takes me backwards and forwards in equal measure.
Father John Misty – Strange Encounter
I have a bit of a love-meets-irritation relationship with FJM, but this ‘I Love You, Honeybear’ record is a classic. Lyrically indulgent and so well balanced. This has been the soundtrack to my painting recently.
Poliça – Dark Star
A band that hit me in the stomach with a fair whack of nostalgia for simpler times. This is a slow-burner but I really like the gradual build and the way it opens up with horns into what’s undeniably a really beautiful chorus.
Frightened Rabbit – An Otherwise Disappointing Life
A song I feel always deserved more attention, from one of my favourite bands. It’s hopeful and heartbreaking all at once. It reminds me of Scott and it reminds me of driving to and from the East Neuk of Fife.
Laura Marling – Wild Fire
Only found my way to this record during the first of our many lockdowns. It’s a very delicate track and I love her lazy, drawled vocal performance. This makes me hanker for hot summer days on the garden bench.
Primal Scream – Damaged
A friend led me back here, and it was good to get back. Like a reticent ‘Gimme Shelter’, I think this makes me feel like there is brightness up ahead. It feels very “live” and roomy and I think that’s what I’m craving most just now.
Patti Smith – Dream of Life
I just read her book ‘Just Kids’, which was just about the most beautiful book I’ve ever read and cast a whole new light over lots of her material I was less familiar with. This whole album is glorious in my opinion.
Dean Martin – Ain’t That a Kick in the Head
I could listen to Dean Martin endlessly and exclusively. This is music to dance around the kitchen, it lifts my mood and makes me dream of being lighter on my feet; Gene Kelly at the microwave!
