“My name is Nino Gvilia, and I was born in a tiny town near the beautiful Lake Paliastomi in Georgia. I have since moved to many other places. My parents work as mushroom pickers around Europe, while I continue on my journey, always feeling the sense of wonder that accompanies my every step.” This is how Nino Gvilia, a young wandering musician from Georgia, introduced himself to the public last year. Nicole and Overwhelmed by The Unexplained, the two EPs marking Nino Gvilia’s recording debut, are highly inspired, conceptual, and dense short works in which the artist, manipulating and reworking the stylistic features of folk(lore), unfolds ten compositions full of grace that reflect on the role of the singer-songwriter and the song in a complex world and a time of crisis. Whether considered creations by Italian multi-instrumentalist and experimenter Giulia Deval or examined as works by her alter ego, Nino Gvilia, the charm of this music lies in its ability to evoke an elsewhere where words and sounds still manage to be meaningful, urgent, necessary.
Last year Nino/Giulia gave us a magnificent TRISTE© Mixtape, today we present her first live session, which previews two unmissable Italian summer concerts.
